Plans & strategies

All levels of government recognise that too many lives are lost on Australia’s roads. But as owners of extensive local road networks, councils have a unique role to play in reaching our target of zero deaths and serious injuries by 2050.

It’s clear that road safety actions over the past few decades have saved thousands of lives. It’s also clear that strategic planning that sets measurable targets – and actions to achieve them – can make a tangible difference and protect road users.

The plans below set out national and NSW Government priorities to help councils make local roads safer. We have also included examples of Road Safety Strategic Plans from regional and metropolitan local government areas (LGAs) as guidance.
