Remind your communities to take care out there with the wet road conditions

With communities on high alert for Cyclone Alfred and heavy rains expected across the state, it’s a great opportunity to remind motorists to drive to the conditions and never drive through floodwater.

Please share these messages with your community and utilise the promotional images below on your social channels:

  • Travelling on wet or icy roads increases the risk of a crash. Please slow down and use caution when driving or riding in these wet conditions.
  • Where possible, avoid any unnecessary travel. When you can’t avoid driving in poor conditions, slow down, drive carefully and increase your visibility by using your headlights. Slow down and prepare to stop if visibility is poor, for example, in heavy rain. If you’re driving and conditions get worse, pull over to a safe place and wait until conditions improve.
  • Drivers in affected areas should be aware of evacuation routes and follow the advice of authorities. Adjust your route accordingly to avoid driving into danger.
  • Flash flooding can occur without warning. Roads or crossings that may have looked safe a short time ago can quickly become dangerous. If you're not sure it's safe to cross, the safest choice is to not enter floodwaters. If you do encounter floodwater, turn around and find a safer way to go.
