The Helmet STAR program released the second round of bicycle helmet safety ratings on Sunday, 8 June 2025. It's supported by a paid campaign comprising of search and social media to raise awareness about the Helmet STAR program.

The Helmet STAR program has now tested and published safety results for a total of 115 helmet models. The latest round of testing included 54 models across five key categories: mountain bike, road, general use, wheeled recreation, and children’s helmets. Prices range from budget-friendly options at $17 to high-performance models priced up to $499, highlighting helmet accessibility regardless of budget.

Importantly, this round of testing brings an update to the mountain bike category. It has been expanded to include both open-face and full-face mountain bike helmets, providing more clarity for riders seeking specialised protection.

Recent data from SafeWork NSW highlights the increased vulnerability of Food Delivery Riders (FDRs), particularly among workers from Indian, Bangladeshi, and Chinese speaking backgrounds. To better support these high-risk groups, the Helmet STAR toolkit and webpage now include additional CALD materials. Social media and website content is now available in Hindi, Bengali, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese and Arabic.

These targeted outreach efforts aim to improve awareness, education, and ultimately, helmet usage among vulnerable rider populations. For more information and access to the full set of helmet ratings, visit the Helmet STAR website
