Did you know? Riders who wear the right gear are up to twice as likely to avoid being hospitalised after a crash
This October is Motorcycle Awareness Month, a Motorcycle Council of NSW initiative that we’ve supported since 2012.
Motorcycle riders are overrepresented in fatalities on NSW roads. While they only make up 4.4% of all registered motor vehicles, they accounted for 18.6% of all road fatalities from 2018 to 2022.
As the weather starts to warm up, there may be more motorcyclists on NSW roads. It’s up to all of us to ensure they stay safe.
If you're a rider, be sure to:
- choose the right gear for your ride by checking safety ratings at motocap.com.au.
- regularly service your bike and check your brakes and lights before each ride.
- never ride while tired.
If you're a driver, always:
- give motorcyclists plenty of space.
- check your blind spots before merging.
