Trains can travel at speeds of up to 160km/h and can take up to 1.4km to stop. This means even if a train driver sees you, they can’t stop in time.

Between July 2015 and June 2025 there have been 66 collisions between trains and road vehicles at level crossings in NSW, resulting in nine fatalities and nine serious injuries.

This campaign is part of an ongoing series of enforcement campaigns between the NSW Police Force and Transport for NSW to help improve safety at level crossings in NSW. It aims to remind motorists to be vigilant at level crossings. Slow down, always obey the signs, and never enter a level crossing if there are flashing lights or bells or boom gates are activated. Please obey the signs and signals at level crossings, as a single moment of distraction or recklessness could cost you or others their life.

Motorists who gamble with their safety at level crossings face three demerit points and a $562 fine.
