School educators play an important role in promoting safe road behaviour for children around schools. Parents, carers and students also need to do their part to continue practising safe behaviour once students leave the school gates.
With the new school term beginning, it's the perfect opportunity to remind families in your community to travel safely around schools and share our road safety advice.
School safety fact sheets
To encourage safe road user behaviour around schools, we've created new fact sheets that offer families advice on:
- Holding your child's hand
- Walking safely together to and from school
- Children’s and supervised crossings
- Driving and parking safely near schools
- 40km/h school zones
- Driving safely near school buses
- Keeping your child safe in and out of vehicles
- Keeping your child safe when driving to and from school
- Wearing helmets and riding safely
- Helping your child around buses
- Seatbelt safety on the bus - primary students
- Seatbelt safety on the bus - secondary students
The suite of fact sheets can be downloaded from the Centre for Road Safety website - Safety around schools section.
