Bus Safety Week forms part of our annual Be Bus Aware campaign, and will be held from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 February 2024.

Since 2018* there have been 48 fatalities from bus crashes in NSW. Of these, 15 people were pedestrians, 8 were drivers (of vehicle other than a bus), 7 were motorcyclists, 4 were bus drivers, 11 were bus passengers, 2 were passengers (of vehicle other than a bus) and 1 was a bicycle rider.

Sadly, this highlights the need for all road users - including drivers, pedestrians, riders and bus passengers to be extra careful on and around buses. Buses are large, heavy vehicles that can take a longer time to stop and have large blind spots. Give buses plenty of space and don’t expect the driver to be able to see you or stop in time to avoid a crash.

Bus Safety Week aims to educate all road users to stay safe on and around buses, and includes messages for drivers, riders, passengers and pedestrians.

How can you get involved?

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Get on board this Bus Safety Week.
